Chailly and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra will open the Summer Festival 2019 with a evening dedicated to Rachmaninoff. Denis Matsuev will perform as the soloist in Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto. This program will also feature the orchestral version of Vocalise, Op. 34, no. 14, and the Third Symphony. The Fourth Symphony by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky will be part of the second concert, along with the Third Piano Concerto by Sergei Rachmaninoff.

As guest conductor, Yannick Nézet-Séguin will lead a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's Violin Concerto with "artiste étoile" Leonidas Kavakos as the soloist and of the Fourth Symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich.

For the final concert of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra in summer 2019, Riccardo Chailly will conduct Gustav Mahler's Sixth Symphony.
