Gerald Chukwuma born in 1973 is one of Nigeria's fastest rising contemporary artists noted for his intricately crafted wood-slate sculptures. Using a multitude of techniques, his unique approach to burning, chiseling, and painting common materials captures a richly layered history imbedded with personal and political meaning. The use of traditional Uli and Nsibidi symbols links his work to the Nsukka art tradition which expanded and modernised the Igbo cultural aesthetic. Meanwhile, the transformation of object into highly detailed artworks roots him firmly in the contemporary moment of rapid environmental and ecological change.
Chidi Kwubiri born in 1966 Nigeria is working and living near Cologne, Germany. He is a graduate of the renowned Art Academy of Dusseldorf where he gained his Master of Fine Arts ["Meisterschüler"] with Professor A.R. Penck. Over the last 25 years he has been exhibiting internationally at prestigious galleries and museums in France, Germany, the United States, Russia, Belgium, South Africa, at the Venice Biennale and in his native Nigeria, where he is one of the most sought after contemporary artists since more than a decade. His works - highly aestheticised with his well known multi-layered dripping-technique - radiate a deep inner calm, subtly addressing themes of his cultural background as well as globally relevant topics.
